In 2022, Mainstream and partner Ocean Winds signed a seabed lease with Crown Estate Scotland for the development of a 1.8 GW offshore wind farm off the Shetland Islands in Scotland.

We have named the project Arven Offshore Wind Farm.

As the Norwegian word for heritage or legacy, Arven provides a link to the proud Norse history of the Shetland Islands and to the legacy which both partners plan to create on site.

Developing floating wind offshore Shetland Islands

Arven Offshore Wind Farm is located to the east of the Shetland Islands within a larger area Crown Estate Scotland has called the NE1 site.

It is located approximately 22 kilometers from the Shetlands and has a water depth of approximately 100m, which makes it ideally suited for floating wind.

The Shetland Islands have some of the best wind resources in the world and, with its existing O&G infrastructure there is the potential for power-to-X and other offtake opportunities.
